Photograph was taken in 1987 by Farwell Brown of the tombstone of Mary White who died at the age of one year in 1869. Mary was the daughter of Rev. John and Jane White. John White, in 1865, played an important part in establishing the Congregational Church, the first built in the new town of Ames. Mary was buried near the Wittemberg Congregational Church near Newton, Iowa, where Rev. White was serving as minister after leaving the church in Ames.
