The Congregational Church, the first church in Ames, organized in Dec., 1865. Located on corner of Kellogg and Sixth, its building was dedicated October 7, 1866. Because it was the first church in a town that bore his name, Oakes Ames, Massachusetts congressman, donated a bell for the belfry. In 1990 the church celebrated its 125th anniversary at same location. (See also: 31.153.2).
