Artist's version of a bird's eye view of Ames as it appeared on page 324 in the 1875 "Illustrated Historical Atlas of the State of Iowa," compiled by A. T. Andreas. Some locations are listed at bottom of picture. Date is also determined by presence of buildings of known dates. (From corner of Onondaga and Douglas, third building to left was department store built in 1873 by Bigelow, Huntington, and Tilden.) Also, North School would not have been shown at earlier date.
