"Squire" Martin Cory [sometimes spelled Corey], 1812-1882, was the grandfather of evangelist Billy Sunday. Squire Cory's farm was located in what is now southeast Ames. He acquired his Iowa farm in 1852 by U. S. patent granted because of his service during the "Indian Wars" in his home state of Pennsylvania. The Cory Family Cemetery, located on the site of the old farm, is now maintained by Department of Parks and Recreation, City of Ames. This photograph was copied by Farwell Brown from one published in a biography of Billy Sunday.
