The Iowa Conference of the American Baptist Church, held in Des Moines, Iowa. The photograph is of interest because of the number of former pastors of the First Baptist Church of Ames. Those with Ames connections are identified in this photo with numbers: #1 Rev. S. H. Mitchell (1830-1910), the first resident pastor of First Baptist, and #2 Mary A. Hollowell Mitchell (1831-1911), his wife (the Mitchells were the parents of Margaret B. Mitchell Brown, the second wife of Kendrick Wade Brown, Farwell Brown's grandfather); #3 Rev. D. D. Crawford; #4 Rev. L. N. Call; #5 Rev. J. F. Tower; and #6 Rev. J. A. Nash, a classmate at Madison University (later Colgate University) of Rev. Parley Brown, the father of Kendrick Wade Brown and the great-grandfather of Farwell T. Brown. Rev. Nash founded Des Moines College (later Des Moines University) which no longer exists.
