A few days after graduating from Ames High School, classmates Stuart Hutchison (on the left wearing a wide-brimmed hat) and Gates Brown rode their "safety" bicycles to Minneapolis and back. This was well before the days of continuous roadways and bridges. This studio photograph was taken by Hoot & Read, professional photographers in Ames.
