Kendrick Wade Brown (July 4, 1842-April 30, 1926), paternal grandfather of Farwell Tilden Brown. K.W. Brown was born in Alexandria, New York, and served in the U.S. Civil War. He and his first wife, Lydia Ann Gates Brown, immigrated to the new town of Ames, Iowa, after the war. Lydia died in 1885. In 1886, K. W. married Margaret B. Mitchell. This photo was taken around 1900 when he was about 58 years old. Captain Brown was affiliated with the Republican Party up to the year 1892, when he became a Prohibitionist. For more than 30 years, he was a commercial traveler for a New York firm, but later went on the Chautauqua lecture tour. He ran for governor of Iowa on the Prohibitionist ticket in 1908.
