The interior of the Pammel family home at 804 Duff Avenue in Ames. Professor Louis Hermann Pammel (1862-1931) made up the entire botany department in the early years of Iowa State College and then was the head of the department until his retirement in 1927. He was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and was on the faculty of Iowa State College from 1889 through 1927. He died while riding on a train in the state of Nevada at the age of 69.
