The Iowa Sanitarium and Hospital was built in Nevada in 1909 in response to interest in having an area hospital. The forty-bed facility was run by the Seventh-Day Adventists. Until Mary Greeley Hospital was built in Ames in 1915/16, this was the only hospital available to the public in the area. This building burned in 1945, and seven years later, Story County Hospital was built. (See also: 119.654D.1,4-6; 128.705A.6)
