The Iowa Sanitarium in Nevada, Iowa, was built in 1909 and operated by the Seventh Day Adventists. A forty-bed facility, it offered the nearest hospital service to Ames residents until Mary Greeley Hospital was completed in 1916. The emphasis of the Sanitarium was on disease prevention and health maintenance. It burned on January 30, 1943. In 1950 the Story County Hospital was built in Nevada.
