The Milwaukee Railroad was constructed across southern Story County in 1881. Passenger service was provided to the towns of Collins, Maxwell, Cambridge, and Slater until that line discontinued its passenger service on March 30, 1981. The rail line was the major reason for the establishment of the town of Collins in southeast Story County. This "bird's eye" view of the town was taken sometime in the first decade of the 20th century.
