The Ames Post Office, when newly built, in 1912. This building was located on the southwest corner of Kellogg Avenue and Fifth Street, across from the original town hall. This photo is viewed from the east side of the building (its entrance). By the mid-1920s, the post office had to rent added space, seasonally. It was replaced in 1935 by a new structure located one block to the north on the corner of Sixth Street and Kellogg (which building continues to operate [2000] as Ames's main post office).
