Main office and laboratory of the U.S. Hog Cholera Research Station in about 1915. This was the forerunner of the National Animal Disease Center. Established by Dr. W. B. Niles in 1901 in Sidney (Iowa), it was moved to Ames in 1905. It was here that researchers first developed Hog Cholera serum. Facility was located on east side of Skunk River, south of Thirteenth Street. Dr. Clarence Cole headed the station from 1927 until he retired in 1952.
