In 1916, Ray Cunningham and eleven of his fellow-students at South Dakota State College brought down a rogue circus elephant. This is one of a series of photographs illustrating the aftermath of the hunt. (For all the photographs, see ID 102.554.1-3) Ray Cunningham was the head of the Y.M.C.A. program at Iowa State College from 1933 to 1953. He retired at the age of sixty and remained very active in the Ames community.
