Military convoy as it appeared in western Nebraska during 1919 trek across the U. S. (from east to west) on the Lincoln Highway. Future president Dwight Eisenhower was one of the officers leading the exercise. The purpose of the convoy was to prove the maneuverability of military equipment, the ability of personnel to maintain that equipment while on the move, and to demonstrate the need for serviceable roads across the nation.
