A Fourth of July celebration sometime in the late 1920s or early 1930s at Lake Comar park. The park was located eight miles north of Ames and two miles south of Story City and one mile east of Highway 69. Comar was a public recreational area from the late 1870s through the 1940s. The several thousand people gathered in this photo are standing near the concession building where refreshments were sold. They are viewing or awaiting the beginning of the locally provided entertainment provided each year on Independence Day and other holidays. The area was originally known as Watkin's Well until it was purchased by Fred Corneliussen of Story City and S. L. Marvic who renamed the park by combining the first letters of their surnames.
