Photo shows South Duff Avenue, viewed north from Squaw Creek. The sale barn on the east side was the only commercial structure then located south of what would be South Third Street. The billboard on the west side, advertising Zenith radios, belonged to Eschbach Music House (at 305 Main Street in downtown Ames, closed in 1985). The surrounding land looks much as it did sixty years earlier when it was classed "swampland." Landfill and road-widening projects were yet to come.
