The Collegian Theater (1937-1975) was located in the 400 block on Main Street. Built in 1937 at a cost of $70,000, it was the town's largest and was described, then, as one of the finest in the Midwest. Owned by the Ames Theater Co., an affiliate of the A. H. Blank Co. of Des Moines. It had a seating capacity of about 900 and on numerous occasions was filled to its limit. Purchased in mid-1975 by the Union Story Bank, subsequently extensively remodeled to become a part of that bank (later, United Bank & Trust).
