This aerial photo shows the railroad depot grounds located one block south of Ames High School as it appeared before the city acquired depot grounds for off-street parking. Note the absence of a railroad crossing at the Clark Avenue location of this end of the depot. High school students crossed these tracks on foot everytime they walked to physical education classes at the field house on Lincoln Way. passenger trains stopping at the Ames depot extended well back on this side of Clark Avenue, the apparent reason for a court injunction that prevented a legal crossing at this location.
