This photograph was taken of the northeast side of the Mealey, a hotel in Oelwein, Iowa. When Farwell Brown was a boy, his father would take him to the family's farm property in Fayette County and they would stay in this hotel. The Mealy is now designated a National Historic Landmark. Farwell Brown took this picture in the 1980s with the hope that it would create an interest in Ames for having the Sheldon-Munn Hotel on Main Street added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Mealey was converted from hotel to luxury studio and one-bedroom apartments. There is also a restaurant on the main floor.
