Photograph taken in 1986 by Farwell Brown, showing the exterior of the Sharp log home northeast of Huxley, Iowa. The original log cabin, built in 1854 by Andrew Bard, is in the right hand section of the photograph with the frame addition, constructed about 1900, on the left. Bard's granddaughter, Margaret Sharp, lived in the house from 1901 until her death in 1981. Roy Thomas, Margaret's cousin, was living in the cabin when this photograph was taken. At the time, this home was one of only two log cabins remaining in Story County, the other being the Bauge cabin which was moved onto the grounds of McFarland Park in 1986 from its original site near Huxley as a project of the Ames Heritage Association (now, the Ames Historical Society). After Roy Thomas died, the Bard/Sharp cabin was torn down and parts of it and some of its furnishings were used in the Bauge log cabin restoration. Unfortunately, the Bauge cabin was largely destroyed by a fire set by vandals on March 15, 2004. Furnishings were not in the cabin at the time of the fire and were thus spared.
