A corner of the Wittemberg Cemetery, about five miles north of Newton, Iowa. In this cemetery, a delegation of six members of the Congregational church in Ames, led by Lawrence Hammerly of the Wittemberg Congregational Church, discovered (note the spade in the right of this photograph) the pieces of two broken tombstones: one for the Rev. John White, who helped found the Congregational church in Ames in 1865, and his young daughter Mary. The unbroken tombstone of wife/mother Jane E. White was also discovered. The tombstones were repaired and reset.
