Topic -- Leading the Charge for the 19th Amendment: Iowa and Midwestern Women Leaders in the Fight for the Vote
Presenter -- Diana Carlin, professor emerita of communication, St. Louis University
The 80-year campaign for suffrage may have started in Seneca Falls, New York, but many of the early strides and some of the major players had mid-western roots. Carrie Chapman Catt is one of the most famous, but there were others who were with her. This presentation looks at the milestones achieved by women from the heartland that were ahead of the nation's passage of full voting rights.
Diana B. Carlin is professor emerita of communication at Saint Louis University and a retired faculty member in communication studies at the University of Kansas where she is currently teaching a course on suffrage in Kansas as part of the 19th amendment celebration. Dr. Carlin has taught several courses on women's rights at KU and for the Osher Institute for Lifelong Learning.
