Artist: Lee Ann Roripaugh & Indigo Moor

Join us for a second year of poetry and community in the heart of Iowa, featuring local, regional and international talent with expanded opportunities to experience poetry!

Come enjoy two nationally acclaimed poet laureates with live readings as we kick off this year’s Signal Poetry Festival.

Leann Roripaugh, a Wyoming native and a second-generation Japanese American, is the poet laureate of South Dakota, whose poetry topics range from mixed-race identity, to Japanese fairy tales, to the Japanese American internment camps during World War II.

Poet and playwright Indigo Moor serves as the poet laureate of Sacramento. Strongly influenced by southern African American poets, Moor’s works connect people—with art, historical figures and ultimately with each other.

A Q&A will follow the readings.

Provided in partnership with Ames Public Library. Additional support for Friday’s poets is provided by The Pearl Hogrefe Visiting Writer Series, funded by the Pearl Hogrefe Fund, the ISU MFA Program in Creative Writing & Environment, and the ISU Department of English.
