Christina Murphy, Assistant Director for Ames Water and Pollution Control, will explore the history and future of the 13th Street dam.

The buried alluvial aquifer that provides the community its source water for drinking has long been studied and analyzed by professors and graduate students at Iowa State University. Their research on the aquifer helped determine how water travels underground and reaches the downtown well field. During the drought in the late 1970s, source water in the community reached a critical stage and later, was the basis for building the dam.
