Program Description

Program Details

Teens in 8th - 12th grade are invited to escape into creative writing and connect with other teen writers. Regardless of your genre, for five days writers will come together in a safe space to read an inspirational piece of writing and write together to timed-writing prompts. Teens will divide into two groups for daily writing sessions  and at the end of each session, writers will be invited to read aloud to the group to receive positive feedback. A half-hour full-group lunch will wrap up each daily session.

These sessions are based upon the Amherst Writers & Artists Method, a methodology rooted in the belief that everyone is a writer. All feedback given is focused on the unique voice and strengths of the writer to encourage and model authenticity, peer support, and self-confidence.

Up to 16 spots are available each week so register soon by emailing info@ameswriterscollective.org.

(NOTE: The alternate week of workshops scheduled for July 25-29 session has been cancelled.)

Presented in partnership with Ames Public Library and the Ames Writers Collective. This program is supported by a grant from the Rotary Club of Ames Community Grant Program.
