Topic — The Enemy of Women: Great Plains Wind and Prairie Madness
Speaker — Julie Courtwright
This talk will be about The Wind novel (1925) and silent movie (1928). The author of the book took the reality of Texas wind, augmented it, and linked it to the larger phenomena of prairie madness.
There was historical controversy about the novel because it depicted West Texas in a negative way. It was one of the first novels to give a negative description of the American West in general.
